I win.

it's remarkable how satisfying those words are. short and precise. a proclaimation and an affirmation. subtle. but satisfying. victory is mine tastes nice upon the lips, and you lose fills the dark, vengeful void inside, but I win appeals to that primordial desire to take one more step, climb one more mountain, claim one more battle. I win is that warm glow you felt when you beat your sister at hide-and-seek. I win is that surge of excitement you got the first time you outran the kid around the corner. I win never grows up.

speaking of me winning, I achieved a musical victory tonight. I can now play a b-flat major scale and twinkle, twinkle little star on three different instruments. trombone-honking is my new favourite hobby. unfortunately for all roommates, ferrets, neighbours and random passerbys within a quarter-mile radius, it still sounds vaguely like a lake freighter with phlegm in its pipes. but we'll get there.

I have won another battle in my war against the u of t psych department. I am finally enrolled in physiology/psychology of emotion! one of the courses I have been most looking forward to taking. that gives me four courses for the fall semester; now I'm just waiting on social psych, the 200-level course I need in order to graduate.

AND, to add to today's ever-growing pile of victories, I survived the grade 4 harmony exam this morning. we'll see how it really went when I get the results, but it wasn't as bad as I was afraid it would be, considering the amount of homework I didn't do.

sweet, sweet victory.

I win.

Yay! you show that gr. 4 harmony! I heard about your trombone aspirations...I never pictured you as a brass player, but I think one day, you, me and Kate should all get instruments (you on whatever you choose, kate on trombone, me on euphonium) and pick out our respective lines from the Superman Theme Song! Yay for music nerds!!
