I'm winning! so far today, I have described the element of the canadian health care system I would change if I could, told a story about the role model who inspires me to uphold high standards of ethics and professionalism, dissected my greatest strength and greatest weakness, concocted a plan to improve my time management skills, and racked my brain for a three-page autobiographical sketch. and I even ate three meals! tomorrow, I decide how my life experiences have prepared me for studying and practicing medicine in rural, remote or northern urban communities and spit out that goshdarn 'who are you, how do you spend your time and why in 2000 characters or less' response.

left for today: what event in my life has most impacted my decision to become a physician and why? this is where I'm supposed to confess my heartbreaking story of the time I was in the hospital and a doctor changed my life ambitions forever - but honestly, the last time I was in the hospital I was seven years old and all I remember is how bad the oxygen tent smelled. anyway, I could think of no more repulsive a fate than becoming a doctor until we did fetal pig dissections in grade ten biology. (visions of peering down gagging throats and small children running for the bathroom...) and what would you think of someone who said she enjoyed slicing open pig's bellies and taking out the insides so much she wanted to spend the rest of her life doing it? personally, I'd offer her admission into the surgery program...
