Today I had a chat with a retired professor (I think) who still comes to the lab on a weekly basis. He took notes on our conversation. He was very excited to hear that I am a 'classical pianist' and offered me the use of his Steinway. I was very excited to hear that he spent ten years in Toronto and knew all about the Royal Conservatory, had fond memories of lunches at Hart House and agreed that Vic is a beautiful place. He said Buffalo with the wind blowing in off Lake Erie is the coldest city he's ever seen.

It's always a bit startling to be on the other side of the world and hear someone rattling off the names of places that you know so well they're almost a part of your soul. It makes the world feel a little bit smaller.
